ABOUT THE MOVING PICTURES FILM CLUB
Why we did it.
Moving Pictures Film Club was created to meet a need. No film club existed which focused solely on films that appealed to Baby Boomers, which is the single largest group in the United States population!
Lovers of film and entertainment in general, we have long held that the major studios’ constant desire to increase profits has worked on the movie business in two very different ways:
- More movies get made each year.
- Ironically in an effort to focus on blockbusters, fewer and fewer movies actually reach the public.
Now more than ever, too many really good films never get the chance to find an audience that would embrace and appreciate them. It is Moving Pictures Film Club’s goal to reverse that process.
We are not trying to be all things to all people.
Moving Pictures Film Club is our effort to identify ‘moving films’ and shine the light of distribution upon them. Simply put, we are going to focus on the needs and interests of only one core group at a time... Boomers!
This is YOUR Film Club.
In this case, it's you... film lovers with mature tastes. Though of course anyone is welcome, we are dedicated to looking everywhere we can to find films of relevance to members of this all too often neglected, but influential consumer group.
Quality is why you’re here.
The good news is that by investing the time and the effort to attend film festivals and investigate movie production companies both here and abroad, we are able to do what most people can not, assemble a powerful and unique body of films previously unavailable to movie fans. International films, small films with big stars, documentaries, and independent voices now have a place to engage a sophisticated audience each month. We call this Moving Pictures Film Club.
Great films demand a response.
Moving Pictures. The double entendre that is our name explains our feeling about film. We want to bring you titles that not only entertain you... but also move you. Move you to thought, and possibly...to positive action.
A communal experience.
Since we were children, we first watched films with others. Beginning in the darkened confines of the grand movie houses of our youth, and carrying on through to today’s modern, if sometimes noisy; multiplexes... movies were made to be experienced with others. Our plan is to build on that.
Watch theses films however you like. We have found that our monthly film-festival-at-home fosters an experience that begs to be shared. Many of our loyal users tell us that they have joined with friends to form energetic and dynamic groups that meet to watch and then discuss the points of view our films provide each month.
Opportunities for you to form groups via our bulletin boards and our association with Meet-Up.org are described in our community section elsewhere on this site.
Since It’s YOUR film club...
We invite you to help us make Moving Pictures Film Club better suit your needs. Send us your thoughts and we’ll respond. Where we can, we will build an experience that is even more personal and enriching. That’s why we’re here... to fall in love with movies all over again... and hope you will do so with us!
Sincerely,
Brett Stover and Don Baker
